Day One Hundred and Fourteen - Busy Day

With rain forecast over the next couple of days I felt my future walks might be in jeopardy. So in spite of having a dreadful night and not sleeping much I was out of the house at 5:30 for what turned out to be a very pleasant walk in the renegade sunshine. One slightly edgy moment; a cat was clearly stalking a bird as I was coming up one of the paths. However when the cat saw me he bolted and ran right across the road. My heart was in my mouth. But a motorist saw him and slowed and he presumably went to his home, the cat, not the motorist!

I had a number of things planned for the morning but that got changed when my friend messaged me to say come over to hers after pop master. I am nothing if not compliant.

If we're going to be picky their quarantine doesn't officially end until 6 pm tonight. But they've got through nearly 2 weeks with no symptoms so I felt it fairly safe to go down there. I took a whole load of dinners for my friend's daughter. Another reason I wanted to go was because I needed to see my friend as she fell down the stairs! She wasn't injured as badly as my poor cousin but nevertheless it was the last thing she needs at the moment . She is very bruised and very stiff. She insists there is no swelling anywhere and she doesn't need to go to the hospital but I think her partner and daughter are both keeping an eagle eye on her. She is expecting there to be a meeting about her case tomorrow and I guess we'll hear very soon about when and how her treatment will be starting. No progress regarding the incident with her son. Apparently he took to sending guilt trip texts to her telling her that her granddaughter would never forgive her for missing her first birthday party. Extremely cruel. And ridiculous. How many of us can remember our first birthdays for goodness sake? I think his behaviour has been despicable. Reckons he didn't know his mum had cancer. He's actually the first person she told because he doesn't react emotionally to things, he tends to be quite calm and pragmatic. Well, he certainly hasn't about this birthday incident. So much of our conversation was about that and also about coronavirus. We all feel nothing quite adds up. And everybody started putting forth their theories.

I did find it very interesting to hear about the flight from Portugal to the UK. Because there had been a coronavirus spike in Lisbon everything seemed to be on high alert. The airport and the plane was spotless and there were few people travelling. Everything was closed apart from the duty-free. There were no queues, no problems going through passport control and immigration either end, it was really quick. And the plane was half empty, there was no problem about social distancing.

I also opened my belated birthday present. It was something she'd had to send away for and has been months coming. It's a glass beaker but apparently you can put hot drinks in it but it's ornately decorated with flowers and butterfly angels. And it has a matching spoon. I'm actually too scared to use it at the moment because it looks so fragile so it's on the dresser just to look at for now.

So with my day turned around and returning for, a later than usual, lunch I've had a busy afternoon. Because of the forecast rain I decided I needed to get the grass cut and that's always quite an onerous task physically. And my back really knows it when I've finished. But it's done and the edges are trimmed. And I've also got all tomorrow's refuse prepped and ready to put out for the trash men.

So a more productive and full day. And I'm now much later than I would usually be. Is that a good thing? Somehow I think it is.
