Day One Hundred and Twelve - Soho, Butterflies and Birthdays

Very gloomy and windy this morning so, I went back to bed! No walk. Not something I do very often. I thought I heard rain, too, but I think I was mistaken ultimately. Turned out to be quite a pleasant day apart from this confounded wind. I saw a Red Admiral and Comma butterfly on the buddleia. That makes it a good day in my book.

To make up for my lack of exercise I did some tai chi. I’ve rearranged one of the rooms upstairs So that I’ve got room to do it. I feel a bit self-conscious doing it outside because  I’m so overlooked now. But this horrible state of inaction and apathy persists. I know it’s a head thing and I’ve got to sort my head out. But I’m finding it very hard. I’ve just done silly little things today, nothing of any real consequence. It feels like I’m just wasting my time and wasting my life.

It’s my nephew’s birthday today. I think he’s 29. But I’m not sure. My brother phoned and I asked him and he said he wasn’t sure either! I sent him a card a few days ago, so it’s had plenty of time for the 72 hours quarantine. And I’ve paid some money into his account. He is absolutely dreadful at cashing cheques. There’s been some cheques I’ve sent him for birthday or Christmas that he’s never paid in. So I took to sending cash. But currently no one wants to deal with cash so I got his bank details from his mum and paid some in. My brother has picked up some picnic type food and he’s going to meet with his son and his wife to go to some beauty spot somewhere so they can be together for the birthday. In the normal way they’d go out for an Indian meal. They all love that style of cuisine. But, I hear you say, aren’t  restaurants open now? Yes, many are. But a lot of people do not want to visit them at the moment.

Apart from reports of unruly crowds in Soho the opening of the pubs doesn’t seem to have caused too many problems. The police rather obviously advise that drunk people can’t social distance. Well, it doesn’t take too much to work that out surely!? But it’s early days. I’ll see how things pan out.

And that’s all today, folks.
